OTHER PRODUCTS(PetroTimes) – Recently, PetroVietnam Drilling and Drilling Services Corporation (PV Drilling) signed a contract to provide the Thor jack-up drilling rig (rented from partner Borr Drilling) to serve drilling programs for customers in the domestic market.
The drilling program for Hoang Long Joint Operating Company (Hoang Long JOC) is expected to begin in the 3rd week of August 2024 with an estimated drilling time of 70 days, for two development wells at Te Giac Trang Field Located in Block 16-1 in the Cuu Long basin, 100 km southeast of Vung Tau, off the Vietnamese continental shelf (20 km from Bach Ho field).
According to the contract award letter from Thang Long Joint Operating Company (Thang Long JOC) to PV Drilling, the Thor rig will also provide drilling services for Thang Long JOC for an estimated 51 days for two wells at Block 15-2/01 in addition to offshore Vietnam, including a new well with a duration of about 31 days to be constructed before Hoang Long JOC’s drilling program; and repairing an existing well about 20 days will be carried out after Hoang Long JOC’s drilling program. Thang Long JOC’s work is carried out on the basis of a rig sharing agreement that will be signed by the parties.

Currently, all 5 offshore drilling rigs (4 jack-up rigs and 1 TAD rig) of PV Drilling have long-term contracts abroad. Therefore, PV Drilling lacks owned drilling rigs to serve the growing domestic drilling demand again. Therefore, PV Drilling rented the Thor rig from partner Borr Drilling to supply two customers Hoang Long JOC and Thang Long JOC. This is a new generation jack-up drilling rig built by Keppel Fels, Super B Class version, manufactured in 2019, the rig can drill up to 10,000 m at a maximum water depth of 120m.
In addition to strongly developing market share abroad, PV Drilling is urgently implementing a plan to invest in new drilling rigs to supply the hot domestic market again; At the same time, we focus on new technology, applying digital transformation and artificial intelligence to drilling rigs to improve efficiency, reduce costs and bring added value to customers./.
