Shell Eco-marathon Asia-Pacific and Middle East 2023 (SEM 2023) officially ended on July 9, 2023 with victories belonging to teams from Thailand, Korea and Indonesia demonstrating effective performance. the best energy in the Prototype vehicle category they registered to compete in. Four teams from Singapore and Indonesia also qualified for the global World Championship finals to be held in India on October 10-12, 2023.
Prototype category winner
The farthest distance set at the Shell Eco-marathon Asia-Pacific and Middle East 2023 went to the VIRGIN TEAM team from Sakonnakhon Technical College in Northeast Thailand in the Prototype vehicle, internal combustion engine category (ICE) at 1,867.8 kilometers per liter (km/l), equivalent to driving from Jakarta to Kuala Lumpur.
Other winners included returning champion Semar Proto UGM from Gadjah Mada University (UGM) with a result of 779.6 kilometers per kilowatt hour (km/kWh) in the battery-electric category and KUST from Kookmin University in Korea with a result of 373.7 kilometers per cubic meter (km/m3) in the hydrogen fuel cell category.
Regional Championship
At the Regional Championship, one team from Singapore and three teams from Indonesia beat four other teams participating in the Urban Concept vehicle category in the competition and secured their spots to participate in the global challenge later this year.
These four teams will be invited to the World Championship to compete against teams from the Americas, Europe and Africa in a global final, held at the Shell Technology Center in Bangalore, India , on October 10-12, 2023.
In the Urban Concept car category, after the ranking round according to each energy category, the teams with the best energy efficiency are allocated energy levels based on their own results. Teams then use this energy level to compete to see who can cross the finish line first.
Shell Eco-marathon Vietnam team
In the energy efficiency competition, the AUTO-HAUI team of Hanoi University of Industry ranked fifth in the Prototype vehicle category – internal combustion fuel. The team’s best performance is 866 km/l, much higher than the 2022 performance of 737km/l.

The Shell Eco-marathon Asia-Pacific and Middle East 2023, held at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, brings together students from across Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. A total of 75 teams from 13 countries participated in this year’s event.
